Praise be to Allah and peace and blessings upon His Prophet.
This research is entitled 'Direction of the Quranic Evidence in "Mughni Al-Labeeb": Origin, Application and Methodology'. It is a research about the directions against which Ibn Hisham adopted a certain attitude and his methodology of response, preference and approval.
The nature of this research dictated that it should be prefaced by an introduction that includes clarification of the subject and the reasons behind its selection and its methodology, along with a preamble in which the researcher indicated the attitude of the construers of the Quran.
The research is made up of three chapters, the first of which is the theoretical study which in turn is made up of three sections: "The Hearing", "Grammarians Opinions and Origins" and "Observation of the Meaning". The second chapter which is the applied study is also made up of similar sections as the above, namely: "The Hearing", "Grammarians Opinions and Origins" and "Observation of the Meaning". The third chapter which is Ibn Hisham's methodology likewise included three similar sections namely: "The Hearing", "Grammarians Opinions and Origins" and "Observation of the Meaning". The research ends up with a conclusion followed by technical indexes.
The research came up with the following findings:
- Ibn Hisham supports the direction that he chooses by means of the recurrent or unusual readings, and supported his arguments by the counterpart, especially when its use is confined to the Quran.
- Ibn Hisham rejects the direction when it is contrary to the Quranic form, a he considers the Quranic form as the origin.
- Ibn Hisham used to choose the directions that are supported by grammatical rules when such rules indicate a usage not embodied in the Holy Quran or were agreed upon by the grammarians or were famous according to them.
- Ibn Hisham used the meaning as a criterion by which to determine the directions that he chooses. Thus he rejects the direction that is not in line with the meaning, even when it observes the artistry.
- Ibn Hisham, in his selection of the directions, relies on the popular rules that were decided by the Grammarians which annul the directions that do not agree with the most famous.
- Ibn Hisham used some kinds of meanings to indicate the direction of the Quranic evidence which are the meanings that agree with the letter, the grammatical meaning and the connotative meaning.
Ibn Hisham relied on the sources from which he took the meanings he observed in the Quranic evidence which are: the context, religious facts and historical information. The conclusion also included other findings.
